Cartridge filters should be cleaned every 4 to 8 weeks in Houston’s dusty climate. DE filters need backwashing every 4 to 6 weeks and a full grid cleaning every 6 months. Sand filters should be backwashed every 2 to 4 weeks and have sand replaced every 3 to 5 years.
Cartridge filters have cylindrical pleated elements inside a tank. DE filters use fine grids coated with diatomaceous earth powder. Sand filters contain a bed of silica sand and have a multiport valve on top for backwashing. If you are unsure, we identify it during our first visit at no charge.
